Yaroslavl About city

Founded in the 11th century, Yaroslavl is one of the oldest cities in Russia. The historic centre of the city, located at the confluence of the Volga and the Kotorosl rivers, is recognised as UNESCO World Heritage site. Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to fly in space, who studied and worked in Yaroslavl from 1945 to 1960, brought the city its world-wide renown.
