Gosuslugi m-app users can now pay tax and legal arrears via Apple Pay

27 November

About 34,000 payments have been made within two weeks of the service operation

Users running their Gosuslugi (Public Services) mobile app on iOS operating systems with the Wallet app can now use Apple Pay to discharge tax and legal arrears thanks to a project initiated by the Russian Ministry for Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media and implemented by Rostelecom with the involvement of lead system integrator RTLabs.
To make a payment, the user logs onto the mobile app and selects the preferable type of payment from the service catalog or on the home page. On the Choose Your Payment Method page, Apple Pay icon will appear automatically. If no bank cards have been added to the Wallet app, the system will ask the user to do so by clicking on the Apple icon. Payments can be confirmed by using a Touch ID fingerprint scanner or the Face ID option.
The Apple Pay payment technology was integrated into the Gosuslugi mobile app in September 2018 and initially it was available to pay stamp duties and traffic penalties. Since the service launch, users have made over 330,000 payments for the total amount exceeding RUB250mn. Owners of iOS powered mobile devices paid traffic penalties most often – near 250 thousand payments of over RUB100 mn worth.
The Apple Pay option was most frequently requested by residents of the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Moscow, Samara and Sverdlovsk regions, as well as Krasnodar Territory. With over 100,000 transactions worth almost RUB78mn, Muscovites were ahead in terms of Apple Pay payments.
“Tax arrears payments via Apple Pay have gained their popularity among users – more than 27,000 payments for the total amount exceeding RUB48 million were made within two weeks of the service operation. The new functionality makes the payment process much easier and faster, which is even more relevant on the eve of December 3,” says Mikhail Bondarenko, Director for e-Government at Rostelecom.
December 3, 2018* is 2017 property tax payment deadline. Starting from December 4, unpaid charges become past-due and will be available for payment in the personal area on the Public Services Portal or in the Gosuslugi m-app. The Public Services Portal users can check and pay their tax charges in their personal areas of the Federal Tax Service of Russia.
Mobile public services are used today by over 3.5 million Apple device owners who have given the app 4.6 points out of 5.
Transaction security is powered by Rostelecom’s payment infrastructure, PCI DSS certified annually, which ensures that bank card transactions are safe.

* December 1 is the statutory deadline for tax payments. In 2018, it falls on a Saturday and is moved to the first business day following the due date. Therefore, 2017 taxes can be paid until December 3, 2018.
